The Early Years
From September 2018 Early Years (age 3–5) at St George’s consists of two Kindergarten classes (morning and our new full-day class) and two Reception classes. Our main aim in the Early Years is to foster happy and independent children who thrive in an environment that is caring, fun and filled with new and stimulating challenges and experiences. The children are given opportunities for both indoor and outdoor learning every day, which supports the teachers’ planned activities and the children’s own initiatives for learning. We encourage our children to play and explore; to make choices; to try and to persevere; to be creative; to solve problems; and to form good relationships. We believe that a good start in the Early Years is fundamental to the development of positive, life-long learning habits and behaviours.
Years 1 and 2
Visit Year 1 or Year 2 and you will notice just how happy, confident and well-mannered our children are. There is a real sense of purpose and academic focus through inspirational teaching which helps each child develop their own unique skills and talents.
Challenge, opportunity and a willingness to ‘have a go’ are all important in developing skills and confidence.

Year 3
Year 3 is an important transitional year at St George’s when the children prepare for their move into the Upper School. The broad curriculum which they follow continues to stimulate and challenge them.
Central to our teaching at this stage is the promotion of high levels of effort and achievement, which allows children to take pride in and greater responsibility for their work. This in turn lays a solid foundation for future study habits.
“Staff have a very clear understanding of how young children learn and work…High quality and imaginative resources are used throughout the curriculum to further children’s learning.”
