Prep School

The Years 4 and 5 classrooms are situated in the main school building and to make the transition from the Pre Prep as seamless as possible, the care of the children is overseen by a dedicated class teacher with the additional support of Mrs Adriano, who as Head of Pre-Prep knows the children well.  The children are encouraged to develop more independent learning skills which are predominantly taught by their class teacher. In some subject areas, for example in Art, DT, French, PE, Games and Music, they are taught by subject specialists. This pattern continues throughout the Prep School.

The Years 6, 7 and 8 classrooms are situated in Old Bank House, which became part of the School in 2006 after an extensive refurbishment programme. As students move through Years 6, 7 and 8, enhanced demands are made on them in terms of the quality and depth of the work they produce. Their progress, development and wellbeing are carefully monitored by a designated Form Tutor in liaison with Mr Nicholas, Assistant Head (Academic).

As they move through the school, students are provided with a wide range of learning experiences. These include a French trip in Year 6, a day of leadership challenges in Year 7 and a residential expedition in Year 8 after Common Entrance exams have taken place.

We encourage pupils to take on responsibility and aim to develop their leadership and inter-personal skills as they move through the School. This includes opportunities to represent the views of their year group on the Pupil Council which meets once every half term. When they reach Year 8, pupils are able to take on further responsibilities, such as mentoring younger pupils, or becoming a Prefect, a House Captain or a Captain of Sport.

“The school successfully meets its aim to provide high-quality education that fully prepares children for the next stage of their learning.”
