PRE-PREP
At St George’s Pre-Prep we are proud of our vibrant and happy community where children are given the space and freedom to learn. Our approach to teaching, both inside and outside the classroom, is designed to inspire, challenge and engage each and every child to make the most of their talents and potential. Our experienced teachers, broad range of subjects and activities and spacious, purpose-built classrooms enable us to achieve this.
Developing vital skills
Teaching and learning of key skills and knowledge is delivered through a cross curricular, multi-disciplinary approach. Other areas such as phonics, letter formation and number skills will be taught in the form of a ‘lesson’ with a specific focus or learning objective. We follow Read Write Inc throughout the Pre-Prep and through this programme the children will develop the vital skills they need for reading, spelling and writing.
Mathematical learning
From Reception, children begin the building of mathematical knowledge and this is continued throughout the Pre-Prep. Children are immersed in blocks of learning focusing on all key mathematical concepts including number, shape, space and measure. Longer blocks of learning allow teachers to really develop problem solving and mastery approaches which are vital for increased understanding and future mathematical learning. Children are then given many opportunities to practise, develop, extend and reinforce their emerging skills during the rest of the day in play situations.
