SPORT

Sport at St. George’s blends a traditional prep school offering with a modern, cutting edge, physical education and development programme. Our aim is for every child to leave St. George’s having enjoyed playing sport and with a desire to continue playing in the future, whatever the level. Each year group is timetabled to have at least three scheduled sports sessions each week, with a full programme of matches, activities and clubs offered in addition.

The emphasis of the sports programme is very much on skill development and enjoyment, which is fostered by a talented and experienced team. Our four full-time, specialist teachers of Physical Education and a team of specially appointed external coaches strive to deliver the very best in sports teaching. We strongly believe in ‘Sport for All’ and every student from Years 3 to 8 will represent the school in fixtures against other prep schools. In addition to our inter-school matches, we also have some keenly contested internal house competitions.

The school benefits from excellent facilities in a truly iconic setting, from our expertly maintained sports fields located in the private grounds of Windsor Castle, to an indoor swimming pool and Astro-Turf hockey and netball pitch.

PLAY

In the Pre-prep, sports lessons are all about enjoying being active, playing and exploring how the body moves through fun and exciting games. This exploration includes the development of agility, balance, co-ordination, confidence and safety in the water, as well as fine and gross motor skill development. Every student receives a minimum of one PE, games and swimming lesson each week.

PARTICIPATE

In Years 3 and 4 students are introduced to the school’s core sporting values (Leadership, Pursuing Excellence, Enjoyment, Honesty and Teamwork) through a range of sports masterclasses, festivals and events. Every student is involved in fixtures on an almost weekly basis, with an emphasis on learning how to participate, demonstrating collaboration, enjoyment and honesty. In addition to weekly fixtures every student receives four weekly games or PE lessons.

PROGRESS

The Year 5 and 6 sports programme follows a class-leading ‘sport for all’ approach with every child participating in inter-school fixtures on a weekly basis. With regular masterclasses, festivals, tournaments and sporting events spread throughout the year in a range of different sports, there truly is something for everyone. The focus is always on participation and progress, helping to manage the students’ intrinsic pressure to perform, with the school’s sporting values remaining at the heart of the approach.

As well as weekly fixtures every student receives four weekly games or PE lessons. We also have a rich history of participating in IAPS sporting tournaments as well as sports tours abroad.

PERFORM

As students progress to the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) programme in Year 7 and 8 they are introduced to more freedom of choice and have opportunities to pursue both excellence and leadership skills in a range of sports. The school has a rich history of success across many sporting disciplines, largely due to a focus on nurturing every child’s individual talents, supporting their participation, progress and performance, and removing the pressure of a results-driven environment.

As well as weekly fixtures, every student receives four weekly games or PE lessons. In addition, students who have developed a passion for individual sports are able to participate in specialist events including Golf Opens, Rowing Championships and Fencing Festivals.
