The closing date is fast approaching for applications for the Choir of St George’s Chapel’s Chorister for a Day programme. Taking place on Sunday 15 January and Sunday 22 January 2023, the initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for girls and boys aged 6-8 (Years 2-3 at school), along with their parents, to experience a day as a chorister prior to auditions in February.
A Choristership develops not only musical talent, but also nurtures key skills such as leadership, team work, and time management, as well as providing access to a generous scholarship for a place at St George’s School Windsor Castle. The choristers all receive singing lessons from one of the UK’s finest teachers of young voices, and receive instrumental and theory tuition, rehearsing each weekday morning and singing at regular services throughout the week.
In addition, the Choir, comprised of girl and boy choristers and adult lay clerks, sings regularly in the presence of His Majesty the King and other members of the Royal family, at annual events such as Garter Day and Easter Sunday Mattins, and at special events. In 2018, this included singing at both Royal Weddings in St George’s Chapel: for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May, and for HRH Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank in October. In September 2022 the choir also sang at the Committal Service for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
No previous experience is required to take part in the Chorister for a Day programme – to find out more and to apply, visit www.stgeorges-windsor.org/news/cfad or contact Francesca Alden at [email protected]. The closing date for applications to attend is Wednesday 11 January 2023.
