Focusing on ‘Fundamental British Values’, our pupils worked together to create their political parties, broadcast their core policies for the running of the school, and took part in a series of activities to understand the very nature of democracy. The day started with an entertaining re-enactment of the signing of the Magna Carta by King John, followed by introductions to Democracy and the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect & Tolerance. During the day pupils from Years 3 to Year 8 formed parties, elected leaders, prepared manifestos and campaigned for their policies. Quite apart from the enjoyment of the day, it was a great opportunity for pupils to gain in confidence and learn to collaborate with one another.
