At St George’s, we offer a thriving co-curricular programme where children can choose to enrol in a host of after-school activities and clubs. These provide significant enrichment to children’s lives and allows them the opportunity to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity.
We go to great lengths to ensure that we offer a balanced and stimulating programme and that a wide variety of interests are catered for. The activities are run by our own teachers or specifically appointed external specialists. Every day of the week, except Wednesday, pupils can choose to take part in a range of activities between the end of lessons and 6pm. There are over 80 enrichment activities on offer over the course of the year including:
Whilst taking part in the co-curricular programme is entirely optional, we encourage pupils to choose from the extensive range of activities on offer and to extend their aspirations, skills and range of interests beyond the classroom. Two supervised Prep sessions are also held each day (except Wednesday) from 4.10pm – 4.55pm and 5pm – 5.45pm.
Numbering around 70 girls and boys from across the Middle and Upper schools, this large choir offers the chance to sing exciting repertoire, often in many parts. As well as singing regularly in Chapel, the choir sings for many concerts, often as outside engagements. Most recently, the choir sang at the Cadogan Hall, London as part of the Children’s Trust Christmas Concert, alongside the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department. The choir is open to all children in years 4–8 who wish to join, and rehearses on Thursday mornings.
Singing for Chapel services and concerts alike, this smaller choir of around 25 children works at a more intense pace. The children rehearse twice weekly, all learning to read from musical scores to enable them to prepare music with a greater frequency. All members of the Chamber Choir also sing as part of the Supers’ Choir.
Boys and girls in years 3, 4 and 5 all participate in the training choirs programme. They come together before assembly once a week. Throughout rehearsals children learn the foundations of good vocal technique as they prepare performances for Chapel, assemblies and other school engagements.
St George’s Award – Be Your Best Self
Following its successful implementation during the summer term, we are delighted that the St George’s Award programme is starting again as a co-curricular activity for Years 3 – 8 from the Lent Term 2021. The three stages, based on age, will run as separate activities but the groups will come together for a very special celebration at the end of the summer term. More details can be found here: St George’s Award
